TMC recommends Muri Ghonto, Illish Bhapa, and more, welcomes "tourist" Amit Shah in Bengal

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) took a swipe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah ahead of his visit to West Bengal, describing him as a “tourist” and suggesting he enjoy some of the state’s well-known delicacies during his stay. In a social media post, the party said Shah had decided to spend 15 days in Bengal and added that the state welcomes tourists with open arms.

The post, shared by All India Trinamool Congress on its official account, carried a sarcastic tone while extending the welcome. It stated that Shah could stay as long as he liked and encouraged him not to miss out on some of Bengal’s “finest delicacies,” highlighting several traditional dishes popular across the state. Among the dishes recommended by the party were Muri Ghonto, Pabda Macher Jhal, Ilish Bhapa, Chingri Malai Curry, Bhetki Paturi and Kosha Mangsho. The message concluded with a remark wishing him a “pleasant stay,” a comment widely interpreted as a political dig amid the ongoing rivalry between the BJP and the ruling TMC in the state.

The remark comes at a time when political activities are intensifying in West Bengal ahead of upcoming electoral contests. Exchanges on social media between rival parties have become increasingly sharp, with both sides using digital platforms to criticise and mock each other’s leaders and political strategies.
